Over 520 people attended the Komen Greater NYC Annual Awards Luncheon on
Thursday, May 19th in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton New York. The event, which is the Affiliate’s
second-largest fundraiser, netted nearly $400,000, which will go for grants in
2012.
The event celebrated our 2011 grantees.
This year, we awarded a record-breaking $4.8 million in funding,
including $3.3 million in grants to 36 community-based health program and three
hospitals from our service area — New York City, Long Island, Westchester and
Rockland Counties. Representatives from
all of the grantees were on hand. Komen
Greater NYC also provided $1.5 million in funding for national peer-reviewed
research to find the cures.
The event also honored organizations and individuals that are making a
difference in the fight against breast cancer.
This year’s honorees were:
Pat
Battle
(Survivor Award) — Anchor/Reporter, NBC4 New York
Accenture (Corporate Award) —
accepted by Laila Worrell,
Partner
Dwight
De Risi, MD (Compassionate Care Award)

Sandra L. Kozlowski, Chair, Komen Greater NYC Young Professionals Committee (Next
Generation Award)
Linda

Metastatic Breast Cancer Award)
Special guests included Paula
Zahn, journalist,
executive producer and host of On the
Case with Paula Zahn and Erika Tarantal, Anchor/Reporter, WNBC4 New York.
The luncheon was hosted
by CBS 2 anchor and Board member Maurice DuBois.
Before the
afternoon was over, the room was bathed in the glow of pink light cubes — a new
feature, which allowed attendees to make a donation and be eligible to win one
of four fabulous prizes.
The event would
not have been possible without the work of Luncheon co-chairs Ayala Deutsch and
Nikki Tippins, their committee chairs, benefit committee members, and the Komen Greater NYC staff.
