New York City will be turning pink to honor those affected by breast cancer and kick off the 2012 Komen Greater New York City Race for the Cure®. Twenty-seven structures will be illuminated during the week-long celebration, which begins with an invitation-only reception on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at YOTEL. In addition, 14 websites will be lit up in pink for Virtual City in Pink.
“On September 5th, New York City’s skyline will be honoring those who have survived breast cancer as well as saluting the memory of those who have lost their battle with the disease. We have been doing this for the last eighteen years during Komen Greater NYC Race for the Cure week in New York City,” said Vern Calhoun, Komen Greater NYC Acting Executive Director. “Our City in Pink participants — real and virtual — are all helping to spread the word about breast cancer awareness and the importance of the Race.”
Reception attendees will be able to learn about breath health (and win prizes) at the Komen Greater NYC spin wheel, get mini facials from Origins, bid on silent auction items and receive a special gift from Ford. Reception drinks will be courtesy of Figenza and Scoops; music will be provided by DJ Uri Dalal.
The evening will also pay tribute to Komen Greater NYC’s Pink Honor Roll — the top 125 fundraisers and top five team captains from the 2011 Race.
