Doctors for the Cure^®

Join Doctors for the Cure and enable more breast cancer survivors to participate free of charge in the Komen Greater NYC Race for the Cure^®. This year’s Race is Sunday, September 9th at 9:00 am in Central Park.

Survivors are heart and soul of the Race. In 2011, the event honored 1,600 self-identified breast cancer survivors.

Physicians may join as individuals or as part of a practice.

Mission

The purpose of Doctors for the Cure is to enable more breast cancer survivors to participate free of charge in the Komen Greater NYC Race for the Cure.  This year's event honored over 1,600 self-identified breast cancer survivors.

Where Doctors for the Cure Funds Go

Funds raised through the Doctors for the Cure program pay for survivor Race entry fees, as well as help underwrite Komen Greater NYC grants.

In 2012, Komen Greater NYC awarded $4.4 million in funding at a time when the need is greater than ever:

• $2.9 million for Community Breast Health Grants, representing funding for education and outreach, screening coordination, and support and treatment programs.
• $100,000 for clinical research enrollment, increasing the capacity of local researchers to enroll underserved women in breast cancer clinical trials.
• Over $1.4 million invested in peer-reviewed national breast cancer research projects.

It's easy:

• Download the registration form in Word or PDF formats..
• Choose a sponsorship level.
• Complete the form.
• Mail in your form and your donation.

Once You’re a Doctor for the Cure

We will send you:

• Specially marked complimentary registration forms for you and your staff.
• Specially marked complimentary registrations forms for your patients who are breast cancer survivors and those who are undergoing treatment. Each patient must fill out the form and send it directly to Komen Greater NYC.
• A sample cover letter for you to enclose with the complimentary patient Race registrations. It will explain that they are invited to participate in the Race free of charge.  We encourage you to personalize each patient’s letter.

Note:  Due to strict confidentiality practices, your office will need to identify breast cancer survivor patients and send them the cover letter and registration form. If you don’t have a list of survivors, their names may often be obtained from hospital radiology records. Komen Greater NYC will take care of the registration process after the cover letters and registration forms have been sent out, and we have heard from your patients.
