Adelphi University/Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program

The Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen is pleased to announce Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program as the recipient of the 2009 Grantee of the Year. The mission of Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program is to educate, support, empower, and advocate for breast cancer patients. They also train medical professionals on how to deliver culturally sensitive and competent services to minority women in which they serve. Adelphi University collaborates with Nassau University Medical Center, the New York State Cancer Services Partnership for Nassau County which provides comprehensive health care to Nassau County residents regardless of their ability to pay.

Hillary Rutter and Dara Richardson-Heron, M.D.

Hillary Rutter, Director of the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program with Komen Greater NYC CEO Dara Richardson-Heron, M.D.,

Komen supports the Providing Support for Services for Underserved Minority Women Diagnosed with Breast Cancer program. The primary purpose of this program is to provide psychosocial support and counseling services, both individual and family, to underserved minority women with breast cancer and their families in Nassau County. By providing counseling services in English and Spanish, financial support for transportation and food, and culturally competent training to the medical community, the Program has been able to serve a greater community of underserved individuals affected by breast cancer in the Long Island area. As the Program grows, it will continue to seek out opportunities to break down barriers faced by underserved populations in accessing health care and in receiving proper medical treatment.

Adelphi University has a long standing history with the Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Since 1994, Komen has supported various initiatives under the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program.
