Komen supports the Providing Support for Services for Underserved Minority Women Diagnosed with Breast Cancer program. The primary purpose of this program is to provide psychosocial support and counseling services, both individual and family, to underserved minority women with breast cancer and their families in Nassau County. By providing counseling services in English and Spanish, financial support for transportation and food, and culturally competent training to the medical community, the Program has been able to serve a greater community of underserved individuals affected by breast cancer in the Long Island area. As the Program grows, it will continue to seek out opportunities to break down barriers faced by underserved populations in accessing health care and in receiving proper medical treatment.
Adelphi University has a long standing history with the Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Since 1994, Komen has supported various initiatives under the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program.
