2016 Race for the Cure

Team Sheila

Dear Friends and Family,

As you know, our beautiful mother Sheila Bebchick has been living with metastatic breast cancer for over nine years. Throughout all the almost daily treatments, doctors' appointments, clinical trials and tests, she has stayed positive and strong. She is a constant inspiration, our hero and the namesake for our team.

In early December 2013, at age 39, Rachel was diagnosed with breast cancer. In light of our family history, she demanded early mammograms and ultrasounds, which may have ultimately saved her life. Taking a page from our mom, she has faced this frightening diagnosis with such inner strength and fearlessness.  We are all so happy and blessed to report her positive prognosis. You can read more about her story on her fundraising page.

Seven years ago, we formed Team Sheila to honor our mom’s fight and all of those who struggle every day with this horrible disease.  In that short time, Team Sheila has raised an astounding $78,970 and last year our family was named the Komen Greater NYC’s Co-Survivors of the Year.

Breast cancer has unfortunately touched all of us in some way (and our family in more ways than we would have hoped), and it is our prayer that our children’s generation will never have to hear the words breast cancer when they are our age.

If you are in the NYC area on September 10, 2016, we would love for you to be a part of our team. Last year we had over 40 Team Sheila participants, including runners of all abilities and walkers. All Team Sheila team members will be provided a custom Team Sheila t-shirt! If you are unable to attend, we are raising money for Susan G. Komen and ask that you kindly donate what you can… for us,  it is the participation that counts!

Please sign up directly to join our team by August 8 if possible, so that we can order the shirts in time for the race.

Any questions, please let us know!
