KNOCKOUT BREAST CANCER
Hi. My name is Rodney Libramonte. I am a Mixed Martial Arts Instructor for UFC Gym Long Island. Please join me in the ring to fight breast cancer in honor of my wife and breast cancer survivor, Lindsay.
A year ago, our world was devastated when Lindsay was diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite all odds against this happening, (e.g. her young age, ethnicity, and lack of family history of breast cancer) cancer found its way into our lives. It took a while to process but after accepting this life changing blow, we took the necessary measures to fight cancer out of our lives. In this past year, we conquered a bilateral mastectomy, an infection, 8 arduous chemo treatments, and a 14 hour reconstructive surgery. There was much uncertainty of how she would prevail but through immense support from family and friends, we have been blessed to triumph over this battle. She has been an inspiration to everyone’s life that she has come across. Her absolute love for celebrating life and her attitude to always laugh and smile is contagious.
Those who know Lindsay well understand that nothing ever stands in her way, personally and professionally, as evidenced by her recent accomplishments. Lindsay was named the 2014 CableFax Sales Executive of the Year and also recognized in Multichannel News 2014 class of the “Top 40 under 40".
Lindsay’s prognosis is great because we caught it early. And as we close this chapter in our lives, Lindsay and I will fight on and raise breast cancer awareness to support the fighters, honor the taken, and admire the survivors.
This October, my fellow UFC coaches will be holding a "Knockout Breast Cancer Challenge" that will be open to all UFC Long Island Gym Members. All proceeds of the registration fee will benefit the Susan G Komen for the Cure Fund.
The Challenge will include circuits of Mixed Martial Arts and fitness drills with coaches (e.g. boxing mitt work, Muay Thai pad work, dummy bag slams, Ground and pound drills, etc.).
Awards will be presented to the athletes with the best performances. Let’s do our part to raise awareness and knockout breast cancer.
The registration fee is $25. If you are NOT available to participate in the challenge, please consider donating for this note worthy cause. Based on current breast cancer incidence rates, experts estimate that about one out of every eight women born today will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some time during her life.
Let's all do our part and Kick Cancer's ass as a team! Please sign the guestbook and mention you are in for the challenge to register your name!
Feel free to see me in the gym or contact me at (917)837-8092 if you have any questions. Thank you everyone!
